In a recent podcast, dermatologist Dr. Manjot Marwah advised against using Dettol on wounds, claiming it burns the skin and delays healing. She recommended washing wounds with water instead. Her remarks quickly went viral, sparking debate.
In response, Dettol's parent company, Reckitt, dismissed the claims as "false, baseless, and misleading." The company emphasized that Dettol Antiseptic Liquid is an FDA-approved drug and endorsed by the Indian Medical Association. Reckitt also hinted at taking legal action against what it calls a "malicious campaign."
Dr. Marwah, however, stood by her advice, saying dermatologists prefer Betadine over Dettol or Savlon for wound care.
The Mayo Clinic supports the idea of cleaning wounds with running water and warns against using harsh substances like hydrogen peroxide or iodine.
In the end, proper wound care needs reliable information - so always consult a medical professional before making choices.
