In an inspiring example of reverse migration, 23-year-old Avantika Panjtoori has returned to her ancestral village, Fatehgarh Panjtoor in Punjab, after growing up in New Zealand.
Instead of settling abroad like many Punjabis, Avantika chose to give back to her roots by empowering young girls in rural Punjab.
Motivated by her father Jatinder Panjtoori's return to manage their family's educational institution, Avantika set up a skill training center under the SRM Educational Institute.
In just one year, she has trained over 500 girls in vocational skills, helping them become financially independent.
With support from organizations like SS Group Mohali and SBPS Group USA, her center also offers a BPO program, allowing girls to earn from home.
She's arranged free buses from nearby towns to solve transport issues and invites international educators to teach.
Avantika also spreads awareness about gender equality and social issues. Supported by local officials, she is urging other Non-Resident Punjabis to help develop their native villages just like she is doing.
Her journey proves that coming back can move things forward.
