A tragic incident occurred on the night of July 18 at Sharda University, Greater Noida, involving a second-year BDS student, Jyoti Sharma, who ended her life in her hostel room. A suicide note recovered by the police named two faculty members—“Mahinder Sir and Shairg Ma’am”—alleging they had “humiliated and mentally harassed” her, pushing her into a state of extreme distress. Jyoti reportedly stated: “They mentally harassed me. They humiliated me. I have been in stress because of them for a long time...” .

Following the discovery, two staff members were arrested, and an FIR has been lodged at the Knowledge Park Police Station. Students at the women’s hostel erupted into protests demanding immediate action and accountability from the university administration .

Sharda University has expressed deep regret and announced the formation of a high-power internal inquiry committee, while suspending the accused staff. University officials affirmed full cooperation with statutory probes and pledged transparent investigation processes.

Authorities confirmed forensic teams are investigating, and Jyoti’s post-mortem report has been completed. The incident has reignited national concerns over campus mental health support and faculty conduct.
