On 13 November 2025, PhonePe declared a strategic partnership with OpenAI that will bring ChatGPT’s generative-AI capabilities to millions of Indian users across the PhonePe ecosystem.
Under the collaboration, ChatGPT will be made discoverable across the main PhonePe app, the PhonePe for Business app, and the Indus Appstore. The fintech firm said that this move is designed to enhance everyday experiences for users by offering smarter assistance in tasks such as travel-planning, shopping decisions and informational discovery - directly within the familiar PhonePe platform.
For merchants, too, the tie-up promises new AI-driven tools, including support for catalogue creation, content generation and offer management via ChatGPT features. OpenAI’s international team called the partnership a key milestone in its efforts to widen the reach of consumer AI in India, citing PhonePe’s large and diverse user-base as an ideal platform.
This integration signals the next phase of digital convenience in India’s fintech landscape - where payments, commerce and AI assistance converge. As generative-AI adoption accelerates, the PhonePe-OpenAI collaboration could lay the groundwork for more contextual and responsive experiences inside everyday apps.
