In a shocking incident, over 400 residents of a posh society in Greater Noida West fell ill after consuming contaminated drinking water. Lab tests revealed the presence of the dangerous E. coli (O-157:H7) bacteria, which can cause serious intestinal infections, vomiting, diarrhoea, fever, and even kidney damage.
The outbreak is suspected to have occurred due to improperly cleaned water tanks, with reports also suggesting high alkaline levels in the water. Health experts have advised residents to drink only boiled water until the issue is resolved.
E. coli can silently reside in the intestines, but when it multiplies, it can lead to sepsis and multi-organ failure. It spreads through contaminated food, water, or contact with infected individuals or surfaces.
To stay safe, ensure proper hygiene, clean water tanks regularly, avoid stagnant water, and cook food thoroughly.
Clean water isn't a luxury - it's a necessity.
