Starting May 1, 2025, ATM cash withdrawals beyond the free limit will cost ₹23 per transaction, up from the earlier ₹21. As per RBI's updated guidelines, customers are entitled to five free transactions per month from their own bank's ATMs (including both financial and non-financial).

In metro cities, users get three free transactions at other banks' ATMs.
In non-metro areas, the limit is five free transactions at other bank ATMs.
Once these limits are crossed, ₹23 will be charged for every additional cash withdrawal. These rules also apply to Cash Recycler Machines (except cash deposits). The interchange fees per transaction remain ₹17 (financial) and ₹6 (non-financial).
This hike may push frequent ATM users to plan better or shift toward digital payments to avoid extra charges.
