Why Gen Z thinks advertising festivals must evolve quickly...

India’s biggest advertising festival, Goafest, is now facing growing expectations from Gen Z creatives who want the event to evolve with changing industry culture. While the festival continues to remain aspirational for young professionals, many believe it needs to become more interactive, technology-driven and conversation-focused instead of feeling overly formal and traditional.

Young attendees say today’s generation is less interested in one-way panel discussions and more focused on authentic conversations, mentorship opportunities and collaborative experiences. Many creatives want spaces where they can openly discuss ideas, industry struggles, trends and career growth rather than simply watching senior leaders speak on stage.

Technology is another major expectation. Gen Z professionals believe advertising festivals should reflect the digital-first world they live in by introducing more AI, AR and immersive experiences. They want events that feel dynamic, creative and socially engaging instead of relying only on conventional formats.

Several young marketers also feel that award culture and representation within the advertising industry need to evolve. They believe newer creators, digital storytellers and unconventional campaigns deserve greater visibility as audience behaviour continues changing rapidly across platforms.

Industry experts agree that brands today must move beyond polished advertising and focus on authenticity, relatability and meaningful engagement to connect with younger audiences. For Gen Z, creativity is no longer just about campaigns - it is about conversations, culture and community.

As the advertising world changes rapidly, many believe festivals like Goafest will need to adapt quickly to remain relevant for the next generation of creators and marketers.
