Hot coffee during peak summer may sound uncomfortable, but experts say it could actually help the body cool down naturally. While most people switch to iced coffees and cold drinks during hot weather, warm beverages can trigger the body’s cooling mechanism more effectively in certain conditions.
When you drink a hot beverage, your body responds by increasing sweat production. As the sweat evaporates, it helps release heat from the body, creating a cooling effect. This is why many cultures across India and other warm regions continue drinking hot chai or coffee even during extreme heat.
Health experts also believe hot coffee can support digestion better than overly chilled drinks, which may temporarily affect the body’s natural cooling process. Moderate coffee intake may also improve alertness, metabolism, and overall energy levels when consumed carefully.
However, balance is important. Too much caffeine during summer can lead to dehydration, especially during intense heatwaves. Doctors advise drinking enough water and avoiding excessive coffee intake during very hot weather.
So, while iced drinks may feel refreshing instantly, your regular hot cup of coffee might actually help your body adapt to the summer heat better than expected.
