Starting May 1, 2025, Amul has increased milk prices by up to ₹2 per litre, impacting popular variants like Amul Gold, Taaza, Slim n Trim, and Cow Milk. This hike, amounting to a 3 - 4% rise in MRP, is still below the current food inflation levels, according to the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF). A 500 ml pack of Amul Gold will now cost ₹34, and Shakti will be ₹31 in Gujarat.
Following suit, Mother Dairy also hiked prices by ₹2/litre on April 30, affecting Delhi-NCR, UP, Haryana, and Uttarakhand. The rise is attributed to increasing procurement costs due to heatwaves and early summer. Toned milk now costs ₹56/litre, full cream ₹69, and cow milk ₹57.
Both brands cite rising input and procurement costs as reasons. The hikes will impact household budgets, especially in metro cities. Consumers are urged to check new MRP on packs before purchasing.
