Beyond the bustling capital and popular hill stations, Sikkim is home to several lesser-known destinations that promise unique experiences for travellers seeking serenity, culture, and adventure.
1. Zuluk, perched at around 10,000 ft, offers dramatic winding hairpin bends along the historic Old Silk Route. Visitors can enjoy panoramic views of Kanchenjunga and explore local culture—but should acquire the necessary permits.
2. Dzongu Valley, a protected reserve in North Sikkim, showcases lush biodiversity and Lepcha heritage. Eco-homestays and cascading waterfalls await nature-loving travellers.
3. Lachen—an entry point to high-altitude treasures like Gurudongmar Lake—features pristine mountain landscapes and vibrant traditional culture.
4. Barsey Rhododendron Sanctuary blooms with colourful rhododendrons during spring treks, offering breathtaking vistas of Kanchenjunga.
5. Temi Tea Garden, Sikkim’s only tea estate, sits amid rolling plantations and offers guided tours, tea tastings, and seasonal cherry blossoms.
6. Pelling’s Sanga Choeling Monastery and nearby Singshore Bridge deliver spiritual insights and impressive engineering marvels amid lush valleys.
7. Rabdentse ruins, though not widely known, offer a scenic hike to the remains of Sikkim’s former capital, replete with historical charm and mountain views.
