India’s First Indigenous Chip Set For December Debut!

In a pivotal update, Union Minister of State for Electronics & IT, Jitin Prasada, confirmed that India is on track to unveil its first indigenous semiconductor chip by December 2025 a homegrown milestone in tech sovereignty.

This follows earlier assurances from IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, who shared that chip production is progressing under the ambitious Semicon India programme, in collaboration with Tata Electronics and PSMC at the Dholera fabrication facility in Gujarat. He estimated the launch to occur around September or October, reinforcing confidence in the timeline.

The broader vision is anchored in Prime Minister Modi’s declaration during his 2025 Independence Day speech—that a “Made-in-India” chip will hit the market this year supported by six sanctioned semiconductor units already under way.

With substantial investments, infrastructure development, and global partnerships underway, India's coming chip rollout marks not just a technological breakthrough, but a strategic leap toward establishing a robust, self-reliant semiconductor ecosystem laying the groundwork for future innovation and digital security.
