Gen Z and spirituality: Why astrology and tarot are booming again?

In 2025, Generation Z is redefining spirituality by turning to astrology and tarot not merely as trends but as tools for self-discovery, emotional healing, and community building. This resurgence is deeply intertwined with their experiences of anxiety, identity exploration, and a desire for personal empowerment.

Astrology offers Gen Zers a framework to understand themselves and their relationships. Apps like Co–Star, The Pattern, and Sanctuary provide personalized birth charts, compatibility analyses, and daily horoscopes, making astrology more accessible and tailored to individual experiences. These platforms have seen significant growth, with Co–Star alone reaching over 30 million users between 2020 and 2023 .

Tarot, once considered an esoteric practice, has become a form of self-therapy for many young individuals. It's used to process emotions, gain insights into personal challenges, and foster a sense of control in uncertain times. The global psychic services industry, encompassing tarot readings, is now valued at over $2.2 billion, reflecting its mainstream acceptance .

This spiritual awakening isn't confined to the U.S.; it's a global phenomenon. In China, younger generations are increasingly turning to astrology and tarot as a means to navigate the complexities of modern life, seeking guidance and clarity amid societal pressures .

For Gen Z, astrology and tarot are more than mystical practices; they are modern rituals that provide a sense of belonging, a way to process emotions, and a path to self-understanding in an ever-changing world.
