Big Diwali update: Delhi Metro extends hours to beat traffic chaos!

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced special service timings for Diwali 2025 to manage the festive rush. On October 19 (Diwali Eve), metro trains on the Pink, Magenta, and Grey Lines will begin one hour earlier—starting at 6:00 AM instead of 7:00 AM. On October 20 (Diwali Day), the last trains from terminal stations across all lines, including the Airport Express Line, will depart at 10:00 PM. Regular services will continue throughout the day.

The move comes amid reports of massive traffic jams across Delhi-NCR on Friday evening. Areas like ITO Junction, Moolchand Flyover, Chanakyapuri, and Mathura Road witnessed bumper-to-bumper congestion as shoppers thronged markets ahead of Diwali.

To tackle this, the Delhi Traffic Police has issued an advisory urging citizens to avoid peak-hour travel, use alternate routes, and stay updated via live traffic apps. Additionally, all police leaves have been cancelled, and motorcycle patrols have been deployed to manage market areas and ensure smoother flow.

Authorities have also encouraged people to use public transport, carpool, and avoid driving near crowded areas during the festival to ensure a safe and stress-free Diwali for everyone.
