Alumna Returns as PM: Sri Lanka’s Harini Amarasuriya Visits Hindu College!

On October 16, 2025, Sri Lankan Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya visited her alma mater, Hindu College under University of Delhi where she studied Sociology from 1991 to 1994—marking a deeply symbolic homecoming.

Welcomed by the college principal, faculty, and students, she sat on the same benches she once occupied and toured the campus, noting how the institution has grown from about 1,500 students then to over 4,500 today. During her interaction, she called for education with empathy and purpose, underscoring how her formative years at Hindu College shaped her worldview.

Amarasuriya also used the visit to highlight broader India-Sri Lanka cooperation—especially in education, research and development. She praised India’s digital governance systems as an example Sri Lanka would look to emulate.

While she was slated to receive an honorary doctorate from Delhi University during the visit, logistical constraints delayed the conferment—though officials say the recognition will be given at a future occasion.
