PAN card deactivation alert: Link your Aadhaar now!

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has made it mandatory to link your Aadhaar with your PAN card by December 31, 2025. This step ensures smooth income tax filing, as failure to comply may result in rejection of your Income Tax Return.

All individuals who had a PAN assigned as of July 1, 2017, must complete this process. New PAN applicants after July 1, 2025, are required to have an authenticated Aadhaar, and linking happens automatically during application.

To link Aadhaar with PAN, visit the Income Tax e-filing portal at incometax.gov.in. You will need a valid PAN, Aadhaar number, and mobile number. Click on ‘Link Aadhaar,’ enter your details, and press ‘Validate.’ The request is then forwarded to UIDAI for verification. You may be asked to confirm your name or mobile via OTP. The process typically takes 4–5 days.

Timely linking avoids PAN deactivation from January 1, 2026, and ensures hassle-free filing of your taxes.
