What starts as a love for sarees can sometimes turn into a movement. That’s exactly what sisters Sujata and Taniya Biswas proved when they left their high-paying corporate jobs to build Suta, a homegrown saree brand with a powerful purpose.
Started in 2016 with just passion and ₹6 lakh of personal savings, Suta focused on making handwoven cotton sarees comfortable, modern, and wearable every day - not just for special occasions. With no background in textiles, the sisters travelled across India, learning directly from weavers and artisans, often facing rejection, losses, and failures.
Today, Suta is a ₹50 crore brand that works with over 16,000 weavers and artisans, ensuring fair wages, year-round work, and timely payments - even during the pandemic. From jamdani and mulmul to silk and ikat, every Suta saree carries a story.
More than fashion, Suta is about preserving India’s crafts while empowering the hands behind them - proving that businesses built with empathy can also be profitable.
