At Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar College, Delhi University, an alarming incident has shaken campus decorum. On October 16, 2025, Deepika Jha, the DUSU joint secretary (and an ABVP leader), allegedly slapped Professor Sujit Kumar, convener of the college’s disciplinary committee, inside the principal’s office—even police officials were reportedly present.
According to accounts, tensions had escalated after disciplinary actions were taken against some ABVP-affiliated students in a recent campus event. The professor, who says he merely acted on duty, claimed he was pressured to resign and then struck. Jha, in her defence, alleged that the professor used abusive language, “stared” at her, and was under the influence—but she later apologised for resorting to violence.
Reacting swiftly, Delhi University has formed a six-member inquiry committee, chaired by Prof. Neeta Sehgal, to probe the matter and submit a report within two weeks. Meanwhile, the Delhi University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) and other teacher bodies staged protests, demanding strict disciplinary action and safety assurances for faculty.
This incident has sparked debate about campus safety, student-faculty boundaries, and the misuse of student union power. Many warn it could set a dangerous precedent—unless addressed transparently and decisively.
