WhatsApp’s new rule will change how you text strangers!

WhatsApp is testing a new rule to curb spam - by limiting how many messages people and businesses can send to others without receiving a reply.

The Meta-owned app said all outgoing messages to unknown users will count toward a monthly limit unless they respond. For example, sending three messages to someone you met at an event will reduce your quota. When users or businesses approach the limit, WhatsApp will show a pop-up warning to avoid being blocked from sending messages.

Although the company hasn’t revealed the exact limit, the test will roll out in several countries, including India — one of WhatsApp’s largest markets with over 500 million users.

This move targets spammers and businesses that flood users with promotions, not regular users. It follows WhatsApp’s earlier efforts, such as allowing users to unsubscribe from marketing messages and restricting broadcast message numbers.

With this update, WhatsApp aims to restore peace to your inbox — and stop the flood of unwanted pings once and for all.
