Bengaluru-based biotech billionaire Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw recently took to Twitter to bemoan the “gourmet cuisine” served on an IndiGo Stretch (premium) flight. She described the dishes as bland, uninspired, and disconnected from the promise of elevated dining.
She posted a photo of the menu items, which included offerings like “German lentil and feta salad with beetroot aalouti,” “Lavash with cream cheese yogurt,” and “Theedoi tres leches cake.” But in contrast, she said she would have preferred simple staples like upma, noodles, or sandwiches over the “gourmet” experiment.
Mazumdar-Shaw urged the airline to conduct a customer survey, betting it would reveal unanimous dissatisfaction. Responses from social media echoed her sentiments: some users described the menu as “fancy names, poor execution,” “sterilised food,” or “not appetising at all.”
IndiGo has not officially responded to the criticism (as of the time of writing). The episode underlines how even high expectations for premium travel can backfire when alignments between promise and reality are weak.
