Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri announced Friday that ONGC has successfully capped a crude oil well blowout in Assam's Sivasagar district after 16 days of gas leakage. The crisis at Well RDS#147A in Rudrasagar oil field was resolved at 11:15 AM without any injuries, casualties, or fire incidents.
The blowout began on June 12 at Barichuk in Bhatiapar, where private firm SK Petro Services was operating the well for the state-run oil giant. ONGC's crisis management team collaborated with international well control experts to execute the complex capping operation through "meticulous planning and concerted efforts."
As safety precautions, approximately 350 families were evacuated from neighboring areas during the emergency. Minister Puri praised the competency of the crisis management response and thanked Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and state officials for their ground support throughout the operation.
