Veteran Bollywood actress Nazima, affectionately known as the “Resident Sister,” passed away on August 11, 2025, at the age of 77. Born Mehr-un-Nissa on March 25, 1948, in Nashik, she hailed from a film-connected family her aunt was actress Husn Bano, married to filmmaker Aspi Irani.
Nazima’s career began as a child artist under the name Baby Chand, featuring in Bimal Roy’s Do Bigha Zamin and later in Devdas and Biraj Bahu. Her natural charm and emotional warmth shone through supporting roles in 47 Hindi films during the 1960s and early 1970s.
She became a beloved second lead in films like Nishan, Raja Aur Runk, Aurat, Doli, Abhinetri, Manchali, Prem Nagar, Anurag, Beimaan, and Arzoo. Notably, her unforgettable scream in Arzoo resonated deeply with audiences. She portrayed lovable screen siblings and friends to stars such as Asha Parekh, Hema Malini, and Leena Chandavarkar.
Nazima spent her final years living in Dadar, Mumbai, alongside her two sons. Her passing marks the end of an era of warmth and familiarity in classic Bollywood storytelling.
