This year, the night skies are set for a spectacular treat-the Harvest Moon of 2025, also the first of three consecutive supermoons. Expected to peak on October 6, the event comes just two weeks after the autumnal equinox, when day and night are of equal length. Unlike regular full moons, the Harvest Moon rises earlier and appears larger, offering several nights of extended moonlight.
The name “Harvest Moon” dates back centuries, as farmers once relied on its glow to extend working hours in their fields. This year’s sighting is even more special—it marks the beginning of a rare triple supermoon sequence. Astronomers explain that the moon will appear bigger, brighter, and lower on the horizon, giving observers a breathtaking view.
For the best experience, skywatchers in India should head to areas with minimal light pollution and clear skies. Rural locations, open fields, or hilltops will offer the most vivid views. The moonrise shortly after sunset will be the highlight, turning the sky into a glowing canvas. So, mark your calendars for October 6 and don’t miss this once-in-years celestial spectacle.
