Modern dating isn’t just about feelings anymore-it comes with its own vocabulary. Gen Z is redefining relationships through new terms that explain confusing behaviours and subtle signals.
“Soft launch” is when someone hints at a relationship online without revealing their partner, while a “hard launch” makes it official publicly. Then there’s “delulu love”- a hopeful, almost unrealistic belief that a situation will work out.
Dating today also includes behaviours like “orbiting,” where someone disappears but still watches your stories, and “breadcrumbing,” where they give just enough attention to keep you interested.
Terms like “situationship” describe undefined relationships, while “beige flag” highlights harmless quirks-not red or green, just neutral.
At the same time, trends like “quiet dating” show a shift toward privacy and emotional boundaries.
The bigger picture? Dating today isn’t simple-it’s layered, digital, and constantly evolving. Understanding this language is almost necessary to understand love itself.
