The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) has released its Global Liveability Index 2025, listing the 10 cities with the poorest quality of life. These cities have been ranked based on five key factors: stability, healthcare, culture & environment, education, and infrastructure.
Damascus, Syria once again ranks as the least liveable city in the world, scoring just 30.7 out of 100. Years of civil war, unsafe conditions, and a collapsed public system have pushed it to the bottom. Other cities on the list include Tripoli (Libya) and Dhaka (Bangladesh), both struggling with political unrest, overpopulation, pollution, and poor services.
Here’s the full list:
-
Damascus
-
Tripoli
-
Dhaka
-
Karachi
-
Algiers
-
Lagos
-
Harare
-
Port Moresby
-
Kyiv
-
Caracas
Most of these cities face violence, economic crises, and weak governance, making daily life difficult for millions.
This report serves as a powerful reminder that while some cities are rapidly improving, others are left behind in the race for global development and liveability.
