Why Couples Worldwide Are Obsessed With This Ancient Indian Love Ritual…!

From Beyoncé and Jay-Z to Sunny Leone and Daniel Weber, celebrities are redefining love with vow renewals—an intimate ritual to refresh commitments and celebrate togetherness. But did you know this isn’t entirely new?

India has had a centuries-old tradition called Shashtipoorthi, mostly in South India, where couples reaffirm vows when a husband turns 60. With Ganesh Puja, Navagraha Puja, and Abhishekam, Shashtipoorthi was the ultimate “marriage reset” long before Instagram existed.

Modern vow renewals are its contemporary cousin. Couples celebrate milestone anniversaries, overcome rough patches, or simply crave the thrill of being bride and groom again. Some make it private; others host extravagant multi-day destination events with haldi, mehendi, sangeet, and even baraat.

Experts warn, though, that renewing vows isn’t magic. “It’s a symbolic reset,” says Dr. Nisha Khanna. True transformation demands action—therapy, conversations, apologies, and daily nurturing.

Done right, vow renewals can heal, reignite sparks, and strengthen bonds. Done wrong, they risk becoming a social-media showpiece.

In essence, a vow renewal is a chance to pause, reflect, and consciously choose love again…if couples are ready to look beyond glitter.
