This Diwali, India is glowing naturally! Across the country, people are returning to homegrown, eco-friendly ways of celebrating the festival of lights. In rural regions, walls still shine with Lakshmi-Ganesh motifs made from geru (red ochre) and chawal ka atta (rice flour). Instead of plastic decor, homes are being adorned with clay idols, handmade lamps, and kheel-khilone - sweet toys made of sugar that are later shared as prasad.
This conscious shift towards sustainability reflects how Indians are blending tradition with modern awareness. Urban families too are moving away from artificial lights and glittering plastic décor, choosing instead natural colors, earthen diyas, and organic rangoli designs. The movement is not just about beauty, but about respecting roots and protecting nature.
As global trends lean toward minimalism and sustainability, India’s ancient practices are setting an example. This year, the true sparkle of Diwali comes not from electricity - but from the warmth of handmade, homegrown love.
