Even upscale neighbourhoods along Golf Course Road — home to ₹100-crore residences like DLF Camellias — were paralysed by flooding after 103 mm of rain drenched the city in just 90 minutes on Wednesday night. Cars were half-submerged, potholes became dangerous pits, and many homes, including those of high-net-worth residents, suffered extensive water damage and silt intrusion.
Residents voiced their outrage. One homeowner near Golf Course Road lamented, “Everything that was on the floor ... was floating, soaked, and destroyed. … It’s emotional damage”. Sector 55 parents and commuters dodged waist-deep waterlogged roads and unmarked potholes after schools and offices reopened.
Despite spending over ₹500 crore on drainage infrastructure in nine years, including ₹256 crore on sewer maintenance, the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon has repeatedly failed to prevent waterlogging — prompting accusations of mismanagement and civic neglect. Experts argue that the city’s rapid urbanisation — concretisation over natural drainage, neglect of Aravalis slopes, and fragmented agency coordination — is at the core of the crisis.
While authorities dispatched emergency crews, cleared drains, and advised remote working, residents warn that piecemeal responses and bureaucratic inefficiency have turned monsoon floods into an annual trauma — affecting every tier of Gurgaon’s society from elite high-rises to older colonies.
