For years, India relied heavily on imported electronics, with most products designed abroad and only assembled locally. Oakter, a Noida-based electronics manufacturer, set out to change this by proving that India can design and build world-class hardware from scratch. Founded in 2014 by IIT Delhi alumni, the company focuses on creating smart, reliable devices suited specifically for Indian homes.
Oakter began with simple smart plugs and controllers and gradually expanded into Wi-Fi devices, mini UPS systems, and energy-monitoring tools. Their design philosophy is clear: build products that survive India’s voltage fluctuations, heat, dust, and inconsistent connectivity. If a device works well here, it can work anywhere.
A major turning point came when Oakter pivoted to B2B manufacturing. Today, it builds products for leading brands like Saregama, Paytm, Ola Electric and Sony. Its factories in Noida and Alwar produce over 1 crore devices annually, supported by 25 automated lines and a strong R&D team.
Growing from ₹50 crore in FY19 to ₹500 crore in FY24, Oakter now aims for a ₹1,000 crore milestone and an IPO soon. By building dependable, India-ready hardware, the startup is helping shift the country from importing electronics to inventing them.
