In the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, the NDA achieved a decisive mandate—crossing the 200-seat threshold in the 243-member house, leaving the Mahagathbandhan trailing far behind. From early counting rounds it was evident: the electorate swung overwhelmingly in favour of the alliance led by Nitish Kumar and backed by Narendra Modi, returning the duo to strong political ground in the state.
The result signals not just a win for the NDA, but a repudiation of the opposition’s messaging and alliances, which failed to mount an effective challenge in key constituencies. Local factors—such as welfare-schemes targeted at women and youth—combined with the NDA’s consolidation of caste-coalitions and organisational strength, played a critical role.
With the Mahagathbandhan unable to convert its traditional strongholds into victories, the political map of Bihar has been reset. Analysts suggest this might reshape alliances, strategies and power balances heading into future state and national polls.
