A Palestinian activist and educator, Odeh (Awdah) Hadalin, was shot and killed on July 28, 2025 by an Israeli settler in the West Bank village of Umm al‑Khair, officials and filmmakers confirmed. Hadalin had supported and participated in the Oscar‑winning documentary No Other Land, which documents settler and military actions in Masafer Yatta.

Yuval Abraham, an Israeli journalist and co‑director of the film, shared video evidence identifying Yinon Levi, a settler previously sanctioned by the U.S. and EU, as the shooter. Abraham described Hadalin as “a remarkable activist who helped us film No Other Land in Masafer Yatta”.

Israeli police detained Levi and a Palestinian who sustained injuries during the incident. Two foreign tourists were also taken in for questioning. Israeli authorities said they are investigating the circumstances, though no charges have been formally announced .

Hadalin, from the Palestinian hamlets of Masafer Yatta south of Hebron, had been vocal against forced displacement of his community—an issue the documentary highlights. His killing comes amid a surge in West Bank settler violence. According to OCHA and rights groups, over 943 Palestinians, including more than 200 children, have died in the occupied West Bank since October 2023.
