Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi ended a two-day (11-12 November 2025) state visit to Bhutan, where he strengthened the deep-rooted ties between the two nations.

During the trip he met with His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, King of Bhutan, and joined Bhutan’s life-long partnership with India by co-inaugurating the 1,020 megawatt Punatsangchhu‑II Hydroelectric Project, a flagship hydro-project developed jointly by the two countries. India also extended a concessional line of credit amounting to ₹40 billion (approx US $455 million) to support Bhutan’s energy infrastructure, signalling the two countries’ commitment to mutual growth in the energy sector. Discussions during the visit covered a broad spectrum of bilateral cooperation including cross-border connectivity, STEM education partnerships, and increased trade and investment support.

The visit underscored India’s “Neighbourhood First” policy and reinforced its model of friendly development partnership with Bhutan, focusing on shared prosperity and regional connectivity.
