Delhi witnessed a sharp decrease in crime during the first half of 2025, with total offences dropping by 8.4% compared to H1 2024, according to official UN data. Notably, cases under rape and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) saw a 10% reduction, a key concern given Delhi's history of gender-based crimes.
Enhanced surveillance, strategic data‑driven patrolling, and community-focused policing are credited for the downturn. First‑quarter figures show a 19% drop in snatching and a 26% fall in rape incidents compared with Q1 2024, underpinning the success of targeted law-and-order strategies.
Murder rates were stable—107 incidents this quarter, a slight increase from 105—but attempted murders fell from 203 to 168. Robbery also declined significantly (315 vs 424), alongside gains in women’s safety: rape reports dropped from 455 to 370, molestation from 444 to 379, and eve‑teasing from 74 to 63.
Delhi Police attribute these improvements to deeper community engagement, upgraded patrolling, and technology‑led interventions. However, rising drug-related cases remain a concern, highlighting the need for persistent vigilance. As the national capital heads into the election season, authorities are keen to sustain momentum, aiming to project Delhi as a safer urban centre.
