The real reason jewellers wrap gold in pink paper...

If you have ever bought gold jewellery in India, you have probably noticed one common thing - the ornament is almost always wrapped carefully in bright pink paper before being placed inside the box. While many people think it is just an old tradition, experts say the practice actually has practical, cultural, and even psychological reasons behind it.

One major reason is protection. Gold jewellery is delicate and can easily get scratched, tangled, or exposed to moisture during handling. The soft pink paper acts as a protective layer that helps reduce minor scratches, dust, and fingerprints while storing or transporting jewellery. Some jewellers also believe the paper slightly helps protect shine by reducing direct exposure to air and humidity.

The second reason is all about visual appeal. Experts say the warm pink background makes gold appear richer, brighter, and more luxurious to the human eye. The contrast between pink and gold naturally enhances the shine of jewellery, making it look even more attractive during purchase.

There is also a strong cultural connection behind the tradition. In India, colours like pink and red are often associated with celebration, prosperity, weddings, and happiness. Over time, pink paper became emotionally linked with jewellery shopping itself, making the experience feel more special and memorable.

Even today, despite luxury boxes and modern packaging trends, many jewellers continue using pink paper because it combines tradition, practicality, and emotional value all at once.
