Remona Evette Pereira, a third‑year BA student at St Aloysius College in Mangaluru, made history by completing an astonishing 170‑hour continuous Bharatanatyam marathon from July 21 to July 28, under the watchful gaze of live audiences and record officials. With only 15-minute breaks every three hours, she surpassed the previous world record of 127 hours and secured her place in the prestigious Golden Book of World Records.
Remona’s rigorous preparation included daily training for over 13 years under guru Dr Shrividya Muralidhar, early morning and evening sessions, and a strict diet incorporating fruits, tender coconut water, and porridge for sustained energy. Supported by her mother, a team of volunteers, and the college administration, the event was meticulously documented with medical supervision.
Her artistic repertoire spanned classical and semi-classical Bharatanatyam pieces from Alarippu and Varnam to Tillana delivered with grace, stamina, and emotional depth. Remona’s devotion to promoting classical dance to marginalized communities adds another layer of inspiration to this feat. Her achievement is not just a personal triumph but a celebration of cultural endurance, showcasing the power of discipline and passion in preserving India’s classical arts.
