The entry of foreign universities like the University of Southampton opening its Gurgaon campus under UGC regulations marks a shift in India's higher education landscape.
Rather than viewing this as a threat, Indian B-schools should see it as a catalyst for transformation. Institutions such as ISB, which brought global faculty from schools like Wharton and LBS, illustrate how robust partnerships can elevate academic standards. Meanwhile, emerging private schools BML Munjal University, Jindal Global Business School, Woxsen have embraced niche strengths through experiential learning, multidisciplinary exposure, and international collaborations.
To stay ahead, B-schools must transcend traditional case-method teaching. As retail and FMCG magnate Kishore Biyani emphasized, embracing simulation-based scenario planning can better prepare students for dynamic markets.
Moreover, foreign campuses should avoid becoming isolated “teaching shops.” Instead, they should aim for integration co-supervising PhDs, enabling faculty exchanges, and embedding Indian socio-economic realities into curricula.
To thrive in this new landscape, Indian B-schools must combine local relevance with global outlook adapting innovation, strengthening global ties, and cultivating research, inclusivity, and societal engagement.
