India's trade deficit narrowed to $18.78 billion in June 2025, down from $21.88 billion in May, beating economist expectations of $22.24 billion. Exports remained flat at $35.14 billion compared to $35.16 billion last year, while imports declined 3.71% to $53.92 billion.
Services showed a surplus of $15.62 billion with exports at $32.84 billion. Despite Trump's tariff threats, India's exports to the US rose to $17.25 billion in April-May from $14.17 billion previously.
The government targets $1 trillion exports by FY26, supported by PLI schemes across 14 sectors and expanding FTA networks with the UK, UAE, and ongoing US negotiations.
