A new ITC „Feel Good with Fiama Mental Wellbeing Survey—conducted in partnership with NielsenIQ—offers encouraging insight: a substantial 82% of young Indians feel their parents would support them if they sought therapy, revealing changing attitudes toward mental health.
More strikingly, 59% of respondents said they consider parents their primary confidantes for mental health struggles—far exceeding the trust placed in siblings (29%) or partners (31%). This points to a major cultural shift in India, where therapy is no longer seen as taboo.
The survey—targeting 16–45-year-olds across metros like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Bengaluru—also highlights stress trends: Gen Z shows higher anxiety levels than millennials, and 69% acknowledged poor mental health negatively affecting physical health. Coping strategies include music (86%), meditation (31%), yoga (29%), and exercise (26%).
By normalizing therapy and strengthening parent‑child support networks, India’s younger generation is overcoming stigma—and redefining mental health as part of normal living.
