Chief Minister Rekha Gupta formally inaugurated Delhi’s month‑long cleanliness drive titled “Dilli ko kude se azaadi”, kicking it off at the Women & Child Development department office in Kashmiri Gate on August 1, 2025. She personally cleaned the building—swept, disposed of e‑waste, old posters and files - after expressing dismay at its dilapidated state: leaky roofs, unstable fans, and no repairs since a fire in 2021.
Gupta criticized the previous AAP administration, saying they “spent crores on building Sheesh Mahal” but neglected basic upkeep of government offices. She also announced plans to build a new Secretariat to house all government departments, remedying infrastructure neglect .
The campaign, running from August 1 to August 31, focuses on cleaning offices, schools, hospitals, unauthorised colonies, JJ clusters, Yamuna ghats on weekends and the Ring Road at month‑end. A ₹5 crore fund is allocated to MCD; RWAs are incentivized to fight grime with cash prizes for top performers.
