How to make your resume ATS-Proof with ChatGPT's Help!

Getting past the Applicant Tracking System (ATS) is as important as impressing the recruiter. The YourStory article shows how to use ChatGPT to help build resumes that are both ATS-friendly and human-friendly.

Here are the 5 key steps the article outlines :-

  • Gather your information: Collect past roles, achievements with measurable outcomes, skills (both hard & soft), and the specific job description you’re targeting. Keywords from that description are gold for ATS.
  • Choose a clean template: Avoid complicated fonts, tables, columns, icons. Use standard section headings like “Work Experience,” “Education,” “Skills.” Simplicity helps ATS parse your resume without errors.
  • Set up ChatGPT as your resume creator: Use a clear prompt like “You are my ATS-Friendly Resume Creator. Please help me craft a resume aligned to [Job Title]…” and provide all relevant info in context.
  • Use targeted prompts for optimisation: Ask ChatGPT to analyse the job description, list top keywords, rewrite your resume tailored for that role, etc. This makes your resume more likely to match what the ATS is scanning for.
  • Review, refine and iterate: Don’t settle for the first draft. Get ChatGPT to audit the resume for ATS compliance, suggest fixes, ensure formatting is good, verify contact info is visible, and that the PDF or DOCX is text-based. Proofread thoroughly.
