Canva, originally known for its drag-and-drop graphic design interface, is now expanding into full workflow tools and tapping India as a key market. India ranks as its fourth-largest market, and the company says there’s “no reason why it should not be the largest.”
One unexpected growth driver: India’s ubiquitous “Good Morning” WhatsApp messages, festival-greeting graphics and ritualised social media visuals. Canva has deliberately localised content for this habit—offering templates in 13 Indian languages, content specific to local events like annaprashan or grihapravesh, and regional weddings.
Beyond individuals, Canva is focusing on Indian small-businesses, creators and educators. They report strong adoption of their AI features—especially in India—and collaborations with organisations like National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) for teacher certification in design thinking.
Pricing is also tailored for India: affordable payment models, sachet-pricing options and collaboration with community creators help social-media-ready visuals reach huge volumes at low cost.
