On August 1, 2025, Delhi conducted a large-scale multi-agency disaster management mock drill titled “Exercise Suraksha Chakra” at 55 locations across all 11 districts. The simulation began with a hypothetical earthquake scenario and was followed by chemical leak situations in key industrial and transportation zones. The drill aimed to assess real-time emergency response capabilities and inter-agency coordination.
Organised by the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), the mock drill involved personnel from the Army, NDRF, Delhi Police, fire services, hospitals, schools, and Metro stations. Residents were pre-alerted to avoid panic during the simulated sirens, evacuations, and hazmat operations.
This exercise is part of a wider NCR initiative, extending into Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, and Noida, to strengthen disaster preparedness across state borders. Preceded by tabletop exercises and workshops, the field drill provided vital feedback on vulnerabilities in infrastructure, communication, and coordination.
Authorities praised the drill for highlighting gaps and increasing readiness for real-life emergencies like earthquakes or industrial accidents.
