Delhi CM vows no Jhuggis will be demolished without Housing!

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta reaffirmed Delhi government's commitment: “No jhuggis will be removed without guaranteed housing,” echoing her assurance at a sustainable development seminar titled “Growth Bhi, Green Bhi” on August 1, 2025. She added that if required, her administration will amend policies to uphold dignity and housing for all residents

Gupta elaborated on her vision during the event, stressing that Delhi - as the national capital - deserves faster development, modern infrastructure, technology, and improved lives for its residents. She said her cabinet is working around-the-clock to give the city a fresh start, having lost decades under previous governments.

In recent weeks, CM Gupta allocated ₹700 crore for slum area redevelopment, with priority to constructing roads, paving lanes, installing clean water and toilets, and providing community facilities. She emphasized residents displaced due to development projects - like near railways - will receive proper housing and rehabilitation.

The CM also criticised past administrations - especially AAP and Congress - for neglecting slum development and allegedly misleading residents instead of improving living conditions. Her administration is now studying the Mumbai Dharavi redevelopment model to redevelop 675 slum clusters in an inclusive and orderly manner.
