This is one of those decisions that feels like it defines everything. The college you get into. The course you choose. The pressure to make the “right” choice — like one wrong move and your entire future falls apart. So people start prioritising differently. Some chase big college names. Prestige. Reputation. The idea that a well-known institution will automatically open doors.
Others focus on the course. What they’re actually going to study for the next few years. What they might build a career in. And somehow… both sides feel right. Because yes, college does matter. The environment, the exposure, the network — it all shapes you in ways you don’t even realise at the time. But at the same time, the course matters too.
Because at the end of the day, that’s what you spend years learning, building skills in, and possibly working in. And if you don’t connect with it at all, even the best college can start to feel like the wrong place.
That’s where things get confusing. Because there’s no one “correct” answer. Some people thrive because of their college. Others succeed despite it. Some discover their passion later. Some stick to what they chose from the beginning.
And that’s the truth no one tells you. Your future isn’t decided by one decision. It’s shaped by what you do after it. So maybe the better question isn’t “college or course.” It’s what you’re willing to make out of whichever one you choose.
