Govt's PM E-DRIVE hands out ₹9.6L to go electric, but your car isn't eligible!

Union Heavy Industries Minister HD Kumaraswamy announced India's first electric truck incentive scheme under PM E-DRIVE, allocating Rs 10,900 crore over two years. The initiative addresses the fact that diesel trucks comprise only 3% of vehicles but generate 42% of transport emissions.

The scheme targets deploying 5,600 electric trucks with incentives up to Rs 9.6 lakh per vehicle, provided as upfront purchase price reductions. Manufacturers must offer comprehensive five-year or 5 lakh kilometer warranties for batteries and five-year or 2.5 lakh kilometer warranties for vehicles and motors.

Delhi receives special focus with Rs 100 crore earmarked for 1,100 e-trucks to improve air quality. SAIL will purchase 150 e-trucks over two years, mandating 15% EVs among hired vehicles. The scheme supports India's net-zero 2070 goals while benefiting cement, steel, logistics, and port sectors.
