After the tragic crash of a Tejas fighter jet during the Dubai Air Show 2025, HAL’s chairman reaffirmed that the aircraft remains “absolutely safe,” calling the mishap “unfortunate” but “isolated.” According to HAL, the light-combat aircraft’s overall safety record continues to stand among the best globally. The company emphasised that the crash would not derail the Tejas programme, hamper future deliveries, or affect long-term export ambitions.
HAL highlighted that domestic orders — including a standing order book for 180 aircraft — remain intact. Production and delivery schedules are considered unaffected, even as investigations into the Dubai incident proceed. Exports, HAL says, remain a logical extension of its manufacturing capabilities and the government’s policy to project India as a global defence supplier.
That said, the crash has triggered short-term scrutiny: stakeholders now expect greater transparency and clarity on technical and safety assessments. For now, HAL seems confident that Tejas’ long-term viability and credibility will survive the setback, provided the programme continues with robust quality controls and steady execution.
