Born Deaf, Shraddha Agarwal grew up in classrooms that weren’t designed for students like her. From struggling with lip-reading to delayed learning support, she experienced how Deaf children are often forced to fit into hearing-centric systems. This inspired her to build SignSetu - a bilingual platform that helps Deaf children learn English through Indian Sign Language (ISL).
SignSetu uses visual storytelling, ISL narrators, images, games, and instant feedback to make learning natural and intuitive. Children understand words through signs - their first language - instead of memorising text without context. Early trials showed a 50–75% improvement in word recall with just 15 minutes of daily use.
SignSetu is more than an app; it’s a shift in thinking. By adapting education to Deaf learners, Shraddha is proving that when children learn in their own language, literacy, confidence, and independence follow naturally. Her work is reshaping classrooms and showing that inclusive education is possible for every child.
