Winter may look magical in travel reels, but in reality, several stunning places in India become completely inaccessible during this season. Heavy snowfall, blocked mountain passes, and safety risks force authorities to shut down many high-altitude destinations. One such place is Zanskar Valley in Ladakh, where key roads close for months, cutting off regular travel.
In North Sikkim, popular spots like Lachen, Lachung, and Gurudongmar Lake usually remain closed as extreme cold and snow make roads unsafe. Similarly, Gurez Valley in Jammu and Kashmir becomes unreachable once snowfall blocks its only connecting route. Even upper regions of Tawang face travel restrictions due to icy roads and avalanche risks.
These winter closures typically last from late November till March. While the snow adds beauty, it also brings serious challenges. For travellers, the key is planning smart - either choose alternative winter-friendly destinations or wait for summer when these breathtaking locations reopen safely.
