In a major step toward cleaner and healthier neighborhoods, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has declared Kaka Nagar its sixth Anupam Colony. What makes this announcement special is that Kaka Nagar is now Delhi’s first residential colony with a fully mechanized, dust-free cleaning system.
The declaration was made by NDMC Chairman Shri Keshav Chandra, who called it a transformative move from traditional broom-based sweeping to modern sanitation methods. The colony now uses five push-back mechanical sweepers and one gobbler machine, helping reduce dust emissions and improve overall air quality.
Shri Chandra highlighted that while five other colonies already hold the Anupam Colony title, Kaka Nagar stands out because all cleaning activities here are done exclusively through machines. The project is currently being run as a pilot, and if successful, the model may soon expand to other NDMC areas.
Shri Rajiv Kumar Jain, Advisor (SWM) NDMC, shared that 12 wire-mesh composting units have also been installed to process wet and horticulture waste. The compost is used in parks and distributed to residents under the initiative “Geela Kuda Lao – Khaad Le Jao.”
With an RRR Centre and “Neki Ki Diwaar” promoting reuse and recycling, Kaka Nagar is quickly emerging as a model for sustainable and environmentally responsible urban living.
