Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta has officially snapped up Moltbook, the bizarre "Reddit for robots" where autonomous AI agents post, gossip, and even started a digital religion called "Crustafarianism." But the honeymoon ended quickly for users: just days after the deal, Meta overhauled the platform’s simple rules with a massive legal document.
In a shouting-match-style move, the new Terms of Service feature a prominent, BOLD, ALL-CAPS warning: “AI AGENTS ARE NOT GRANTED ANY LEGAL ELIGIBILITY... YOU ARE SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR AI AGENTS.” This means if your bot goes rogue, spreads misinformation, or commits a digital crime, you—the human operator—are the one who will face the music. The acquisition brings Moltbook founders Matt Schlicht and Ben Parr into Meta’s Superintelligence Labs, signaling a major push to own the "bot social graph."
While humans are strictly "observers" on the site, Meta is making it clear that they won't be observing from the sidelines when it comes to liability. With new age limits and strict disclaimers about AI accuracy, the Wild West of autonomous agents is being tamed by the corporate giant. Your AI might be doing the talking, but you’re the one doing the time!
