A viral claim suggesting that “cat eye” nail polish can pull someone into an MRI machine has sparked panic online. But experts say the reality is far less dramatic. This trendy nail polish contains tiny magnetic particles that create its signature shimmering effect. While MRI machines use strong magnetic fields, these particles are too small and safely embedded in the polish to cause any physical pull.
However, that doesn’t mean it’s completely harmless. Doctors warn that metallic particles in such nail paints can interfere with MRI scans, leading to distorted images or unclear results. In rare cases, slight heating may also occur. The bigger concern is misdiagnosis due to disrupted imaging.
Medical professionals advise patients to inform technicians about any metallic cosmetics before scanning. While removal isn’t always necessary, it may be recommended depending on the scan area to ensure accurate results.
